Revisional and Medical Interventions for Recurrent Weight Gain and Complications
It has been estimated that up to 25% of patients who have undergone a Bariatric/Metabolic intervention will need additional interventions for weight and/or comorbidity management or complications. Unlike most surgical disciplines, we must take a holistic approach to the patient, rather than concentrate on only one organ system.
This course will help guide you in this process, from evaluation, risk assessment to intervention, including non-surgical options.
Obesity Medications for Surgeons Obesity
This course will be interactive to allow as much exchange between the experts on the podium and in the audience to understand how obesity medications can be optimised before and after metabolic and bariatric surgery. The objectives are to increase the use of obesity medications before and after metabolic and bariatric surgery by reducing side effects and by increasing long term benefit. The course will explore ways how obesity medications can result in an increased number of metabolic and bariatric surgery operations to allow better care for more people with the disease of obesity. The top international thought leaders will explain heir interpretation of the data but also share their opinions on what the future may hold.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the potential of using obesity medications before and after metabolic and bariatric surgery
- Understand the reasons why the numbers of metabolic and bariatric surgery operations have declined internationally and how the use of obesity medications can increase the numbers of metabolic and bariatric surgery operations
- Understand how the side effects of obesity medications can be reduced and how the long term benefits of obesity medications can be enhanced before and after metabolic and bariatric surgery.
Innovative Procedures in MBS
Besides the great efficiency and safety profile of the standard IFSO approved surgeries as RYGB, LSG, DS, SADI-S and OAGB, innovative procedures are growing worldwide in primary and revisional MBS. This course is planned to provide insight into these new techniques highlighting ethical principles for current use of this group of procedures, the way they should be correctly applied and risks and benefits for the patients.
The course will involve a very experimented group of faculties highly involved in bariatric practice, treatment of complications, revisional bariatric/metabolic surgeries and innovation in MBS. Different techniques will be presented and debated. The program will be very interactive and stimulate interaction and discussion about the most important and challenging issues.
Innovation in Integrated Health
This course aims to provide a series of current subjects relevant to Integrated Health multidisciplinary practice globally. The subject areas have been divided into different sessions within the course program: starting with Dietetics and Nutrition, followed by Nursing, and ending with a multidisciplinary session. All the sessions consist of topics that have a collective focus on empowering and encouraging leadership within all Integrated Health Professionals.
We are aiming to cater for a global audience, with a range of experiences and professions which encompass our Integrated Health members.
We want the course to be inclusive and interactive. We will use polling/voting in the course which will also provide feedback to help plan future meetings.
